Impressionist art movement began in France from the 1800s. Impressionist artists favored common subjects such as nature, people, still life, and scenes from everyday life.
They used bright vibrant colors and light in their paintings rather than dark dull color.

There are several well-known artists during this movement and each has distinctive characteristics.
You’re challenged to become a great master of the Impressionism and its artists and share your knowledge with all of your classmates.  


Pennsylvania Academic Standards for the Arts and Humanities:

  • 9.1.5.C—Know and use fundamental vocabulary within each of the art forms.
  • 9.3.5.B—Describe works in the arts comparing similar and contrasting characteristics.
  • 9.3.5.F—Know how to recognize the process of criticism in identifying and analyzing characteristics among works in the arts.
  • 9.4.5.D—Explain choices made regarding media, technique, form, subject matter and themes that communicate the artist’s philosophy within a work in the arts
